For decades, DAMTEC® has been a reliable partner to Deutsche Bahn. Our under ballast mats reduce stress on ballast, protect structures and provide sound and vibration insulation in rail transport. For 15 years, we have also held our own manufacturer-specific product qualification (HPQ) and Q1 classification for supplier quality capability for our range of under ballast mats.

The new norm DBS 889.0071 from DB InfraGO AG has recently been introduced. This is in response to the new EN 17282, the successor to DIN 45673-5. This DBS for technical delivery conditions regulates the procedures for qualification and quality assurance for under ballast mats. Approval by the Federal Railway Authority (EBA) is now mandatory under this standard, in addition to HPQ and Q1 classification, in order to continue supplying and installing our products.

We are therefore delighted that we have been able to meet all the strict criteria and that our products DAMTEC® SBM K 10V, DAMTEC® SBM K 15V and DAMTEC® SBM K 20V have received EBA approval.

This approval also allows us to complete our conversion process to EN 17282. In particular, a real fire test had to be carried out, simulating a full fire in a tunnel. This was included as a criterion by DB, as under ballast mats require an A2fl-s1 classification. Furthermore, all tests were carried out with a new geometric ballast plate (GBP). Please note that test values according to DIN no longer correspond to those according to EN.
