Inclusion & accessibility
How EUROFLEX® products contribute to inclusive play worlds
Inclusion is a term you hear again and again People are familiar with the term, but it is usually difficult to explain This should change, however, as inclusion is a human right and is increasingly finding its way into the various laws and regulations that govern how people live and interact with each other The more people know the definition of inclusion, the greater the chance that inclusion will become a reality Everyone should help to achieve this goal On the whole, inclusion means that everyone can be present everywhere, everyone can participate everywhere and that no one is excluded This applies in particular to people with physical disabilities, people with learning disabilities and also older people.
Exclusion
People are excluded
Integration
Some are able to join in
Inclusion
EVERYONE can take part everywhere
What can be done to achieve inclusion?
- Obstacles must disappear
- Complicated descriptions must be simplified
- People must learn to think differently (prejudices about the abilities of disabled people must be relativised)
- The range of suitable leisure activities must be increased
- Keep talking about inclusion so that as many people as possible learn about it
According to DIN 18034, accessibility is the basis for all planning.
The ‘two senses’ and ‘two-way principle’ must be fulfilled. Guidance systems’ are also suitable for supporting accessibility. More information on the principles
Advice from experts on inclusion in playgrounds
Accessibility starts with the impact protection surface!
Sand, wood chips, gravel and other loose impact protection materials are very difficult to access with wheelchairs. Inclusion is therefore not possible! EUROFLEX® impact protection slabs, on the other hand, have a clean, even surface. Thanks to the edge and corner profiles, wheelchairs can easily negotiate height differences even with thicker slabs.
Which EUROFLEX® impact protection surfaces support inclusion in playgrounds?
Which EUROFLEX® design elements support inclusion in playgrounds?
Reducing the risk of injury
Thanks to the elastic material recycling or EPDM rubber granules, there is a significantly lower risk of injury when falling, tripping or slipping compared to concrete or metal play equipment.
Creative and motor skills developmentg
The pleasant, child-friendly shapes of our range of accessories invite children to play and try things out. They promote the creative and motor development of children. Flat, rounded products (such as EUROFLEX® hemispheres, stones, cubes or turtles) also allow children with motor difficulties to play.
Pleasantly soft, warm products
In contrast to products made of concrete and metal, EUROFLEX® accessory products are pleasantly soft and also warmer. They are much more fun to play on.
